Mineraux®Copper gluconate Health Benefits:
Copper is an essential trace nutrient for human health, serving as a vital component of proteins and enzymes within the body. Many critical enzymes require trace amounts of copper to activate and function properly. Copper significantly influences genes in cells related to haemoglobin and iron binding, and catalyses haemoglobin synthesis. In the body, copper exists as ions (Cu2⁺ or Cu⁺) or in complexed forms. Copper-containing enzymes and proteins perform vital physiological functions. For example, superoxide dismutase (SOD) neutralises the toxicity of superoxide anion (O2⁻), thereby preventing conditions such as arthritis, epilepsy, diabetes and cancer. The therapeutic role of copper complexes is primarily to facilitate SOD activation. Infants, children and adolescents going through growth and development have particularly high requirements for the trace element copper. Foods rich in copper include fish, grains, legumes, seaweed, eggs and beef liver. Copper can also be obtained through dietary supplements.
Mineraux®Copper gluconate is an organic copper salt formed by combining copper ions with gluconate anions. Its high bioavailability, low gastrointestinal irritation, ease of solubility and lack of metallic taste make it an ideal raw material for copper supplementation in food fortification, health supplements and special dietary products. Copper is an essential trace element for the human body and participates in critical physiological processes such as haematopoiesis, antioxidant defence and neurotransmitter synthesis. Due to its mild and well-tolerated properties, copper gluconate is particularly suitable for children, the elderly, and individuals with sensitive digestive systems.

Mineraux®Copper gluconate Applications:
Copper is a vital coenzyme in the process of haemopoiesis, particularly important for iron utilisation. Mineraux®Copper gluconate effectively supplements copper levels, addressing disorders of iron absorption or copper deficiency anaemia. It activates ferrous oxidases (such as ceruloplasmin), oxidising the divalent iron (Fe2⁺) absorbed from the intestines into the trivalent iron (Fe3⁺) form. This transformation enables iron to bind with transferrin for transport to the bone marrow, where hemoglobin is synthesised. Copper contributes to the structural stability of haemoglobin and myoglobin; deficiency leads to anaemia due to impaired iron utilisation (where iron cannot be converted into haemoglobin even with supplementation). The organic form of copper gluconate prevents copper ions from binding to the intestinal mucosa and enables absorption via glucose transporters, rapidly elevating serum copper levels.
■ Core features
Mineraux®Copper gluconate is an organic ionic salt formed by the bonding of copper and gluconate ions. Although it lacks a chelate structure, the polyhydroxy groups of the gluconate ion reduce binding between copper ions and phytic acid and tannic acid in the intestine. It also prevents direct irritation of the gastrointestinal mucosa by copper ions, significantly enhancing absorption efficiency. Copper gluconate's core value lies in its high absorption rate and low irritation potential as an organic copper source. Its bioavailability significantly outperforms that of traditional inorganic copper salts, making it suitable for sensitive populations. Copper gluconate is well tolerated by the gastrointestinal tract and does not cause the mucosal irritation associated with inorganic copper salts (e.g. copper sulphate). Even with long-term supplementation, nausea and bloating occur in only 2%-3% of cases, making it ideal for individuals with sensitive stomachs, children and the elderly.
Mineraux®Copper gluconate is available in the following specification and contents:
☑ Mineraux®Copper gluconate 98.0-102.0%
Due to its high absorption, low irritation and good palatability, Mineraux®Copper gluconate is widely used in three major fields: food fortification, health supplements and special dietary products. It is particularly suitable for situations that require high copper absorption efficiency, or for individuals with sensitive digestive systems.
In the food industry, Mineraux®Copper gluconate is used primarily for nutritional fortification and flavour adaptation. In dairy products and alternatives, it works together with iron and vitamin B12 to improve haemopoietic function (copper is involved in haemoglobin synthesis), making it effective in preventing iron deficiency anaemia. In children's beverages and fruit juices: Copper fortification provides a mildly sweet taste that appeals to children while avoiding the metallic taste associated with copper sulphate. In sports drinks: Copper gluconate supplements zinc and magnesium synergistically. It participates in the synthesis of antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, SOD), thereby reducing post-exercise free radical damage and alleviating fatigue. In baked goods and flour products, copper fortification enhances the crispness of biscuits while maintaining stability during high-temperature baking (200°C), without causing colour abnormalities (unlike copper sulphate, which can cause blue discolouration of food).
In the health supplement sector, Mineraux®Copper gluconate is used to provide precise copper supplementation and achieve synergistic effects. In tablet or capsule form, it is typically paired with vitamin C and zinc (the proportions must be controlled to avoid competition for absorption of copper and zinc), making it suitable for daily supplementation in populations deficient in copper (e.g. vegetarians and individuals with malabsorption). Powdered or granulated supplements are often flavoured with stevia and citric acid, turning pale blue when dissolved (the natural colour of copper ions, which pose no safety risks). This format is suitable for elderly individuals or children with swallowing difficulties. Multivitamin gummies use pectin as a base and are crafted into fruit-flavoured sweets to reduce the 'supplement feel' and appeal to younger consumers. Antioxidant supplements often combine copper gluconate with vitamin E and selenium. Copper aids in superoxide dismutase (SOD) synthesis, enhancing the body's antioxidant capacity and making it suitable for individuals experiencing sleep deprivation or high stress levels. Blood-building supplements are formulated with iron and folic acid. Copper promotes iron utilisation (a copper deficiency can cause iron utilisation disorder anaemia), thereby enhancing the blood-building effect.
Mineraux®Copper gluconate is suitable for sensitive and specific populations in specialised diets. When added to infant and toddler formulas, its low-irritation formulation protects delicate digestive tracts while supporting neural development by facilitating myelin synthesis. In maternal formulas, the increased copper requirements during pregnancy are met through copper gluconate supplementation, which supports fetal vascular development and prevents gestational anaemia. In enteral nutrition products for post-surgical or geriatric patients, copper gluconate is beneficial for individuals with impaired digestion or copper absorption (e.g. chronic enteritis or post-operative recovery). Its organic form of copper enhances absorption, aiding bodily repair.
■ Production technology characteristics
The core requirements for producing Mineraux®Copper gluconate are a high level of purity and an absence of harmful residues such as heavy metals, sulfate and chloride ions, and organic solvents. The process must also comply with food-grade safety standards.
The manufacturing process must focus on three key aspects: ensuring complete reaction, thoroughly removing impurities, and achieving product stability. Currently, chemical synthesis using the neutralisation reaction method is the only mature, scaled-up production method, while biological synthesis remains at the laboratory stage.
The mainstream production process uses chemical synthesis (the neutralisation reaction method), utilising the neutralisation reaction between gluconic acid (acidic) and copper oxide (alkaline) to produce copper gluconate and water. Through dissolution, reaction, purification, crystallisation and drying, high-purity copper gluconate monohydrate (the predominant industrial form, which is more stable than the anhydrous compound) is obtained. This process is well-established and cost-effective.
Copper is an essential component of superoxide dismutase (SOD), which is the body's primary antioxidant enzyme. Mineraux®Copper gluconate supplements enhance the body's ability to eliminate free radicals, thereby delaying oxidative ageing. It serves as the active centre of copper-zinc SOD, which comprises 70% of total SOD in the human body. Here, it converts intracellular superoxide anion radicals (O2⁻) into harmless oxygen (O2) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Catalase then decomposes hydrogen peroxide into water. Copper also activates glutathione peroxidase and works synergistically with vitamins E and C to strengthen the antioxidant network and reduce lipid peroxidation, thereby preventing cell membrane damage. The low-irritation nature of copper gluconate enables long-term supplementation to sustain SOD activity over time, unlike inorganic copper which can cause gastrointestinal discomfort with prolonged use, making adherence difficult.
▶ Antioxidant
Copper is essential for the synthesis of myelin and the metabolism of neurotransmitters. Due to its mild nature, copper gluconate is an ideal supplement for neurological development in infants and children, as well as for neuroprotection in the elderly. Copper plays a role in the production of myelin sheaths, which are the insulating layers that surround nerve fibres. Myelin is primarily composed of sphingomyelin, for which copper acts as a coenzyme. A deficiency can lead to myelin hypoplasia, which impairs nerve signal transmission.
Copper also regulates the synthesis of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and norepinephrine, activating tyrosine hydroxylase-a key enzyme in the synthesis of dopamine. Deficiency may result in low mood and impaired concentration. Copper inhibits the accumulation of β-amyloid protein within nerve cells, which is a key pathogenic factor in Alzheimer's disease. This aids the protection of neurological function in the elderly.

The health benefits of Mineraux®Copper gluconate stem from its high bioavailability (30-45%, which is two to three times higher than that of inorganic copper), minimal gastrointestinal irritation and excellent palatability. Copper is also essential for the human body's core physiological functions. Copper participates in over 30 critical physiological processes, including haematopoiesis, antioxidant defence, neural development and immune regulation. Compared to traditional inorganic copper salts, such as copper sulphate, copper gluconate is better suited to special populations, including children, the elderly, individuals with gastrointestinal sensitivities and pregnant women. This enables safe long-term supplementation.
Physical and Chemical Properties:
Copper plays a vital role in activating immune cells, including neutrophils and macrophages. Mineraux®Copper gluconate can boost immune responses by replenishing copper levels, thereby reducing the risk of infection. Copper activates the phagocytic activity of macrophages, which require copper-dependent enzymes to eliminate pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. A copper deficiency can cause a decline in macrophage phagocytic capacity of over 50%. Copper also plays a role in lymphocyte proliferation and differentiation, regulating T-cell and B-cell activation. A deficiency can reduce antibody production and weaken humoral immune function. Copper also enhances mucosal immunity, for example by improving the barrier function of the respiratory and intestinal mucosa, thereby reducing opportunities for pathogen invasion.
