Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate Health Benefits:
Magnesium is an essential macronutrient for biological organisms. It activates numerous enzymes, maintains skeletal growth and neuromuscular excitability, regulates cardiac muscle cell function and inhibits potassium and calcium channels. It blocks outward currents in at least four distinct potassium channels, thereby preventing potassium efflux. As an activator of numerous enzymes, magnesium participates in over 300 enzymatic reactions. It is vital for the structure and function of bone cells, playing a key role in maintaining magnesium and mineral homeostasis within bones. Magnesium deficiency has been identified as a potential risk factor for osteoporosis in humans. Magnesium and calcium have similar effects on neuromuscular excitation and inhibition. If blood magnesium or calcium levels are too low, neuromuscular excitability increases, which can lead to muscle spasms and vasospasms. Conversely, adequate levels have a sedative effect. Magnesium deficiency primarily impacts calcium metabolism as it also affects calcium concentration. Hyperactive neuromuscular excitability is an early manifestation of deficiency, presenting as muscle tremors and spasms in the hands and feet, followed by ataxia, mental confusion, convulsions and coma. The effects on cardiovascular health primarily manifest as premature beats, atrial fibrillation, numbness, an abnormal heart rate and ECG abnormalities. Magnesium is abundant in green plants and plant-based foods such as whole grains, dried beans and nuts. However, since magnesium is primarily found in the outer layers of grain kernels, processing can lead to magnesium loss, resulting in lower magnesium content in refined grains. Magnesium can also be supplemented through dietary supplements.
Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate is a chelate compound formed from glycine and magnesium ions. It is characterised by its high bioavailability and safety. It is widely used in food products, health supplements and functional beverages. Most magnesium supplements, formulations and medications currently used in humans consist primarily of inorganic and organic salts, which are poorly absorbed and contain large amounts of anions that may cause adverse reactions. Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate, a cyclic chelate formed by magnesium and glycine, is a novel nutritional magnesium supplement.

Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate Applications:
Due to diets high in refined sugars and processed foods, high stress levels and excessive alcohol and caffeine consumption, hidden magnesium deficiency is common in modern populations (approximately 70% of adults globally have inadequate magnesium intake). Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate is the preferred form of supplementation. Its glycine chelation structure prevents it from binding with oxalic acid and phytic acid in the intestines, which hinders the absorption of traditional magnesium supplements. Magnesium glycinate achieves a bioavailability of over 80%.
■ Core features
Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate is highly bioavailable, with an absorption rate of around 80%. This is significantly higher than that of traditional magnesium sources, such as magnesium oxide and magnesium citrate. Research indicates that it is absorbed at a rate 8.8 times higher than magnesium oxide and 2.3 times higher than magnesium carbonate. Glycine itself acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter, working with magnesium to have a calming effect and being less likely to cause diarrhoea than magnesium citrate, which has an osmotic laxative action. Magnesium glycinate supplements both magnesium and glycine. The latter participates in protein synthesis and neurotransmitter regulation, further enhancing the overall health benefits.
Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate is available in the following specification and contents:
☑ Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate ≥98% (Mg ≥11.5%)
The range of applications for Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate depends heavily on its core characteristics: high bioavailability, low gastrointestinal irritation, ease of solubility, odourlessness, and the dual nutritional benefits of combining magnesium with glycine. It is widely used in the food industry, health supplements, specialised diets, pet food and other sectors. As demand for functional and precision nutrition continues to grow, the range of applications is steadily expanding.
The food industry is the main area of application for Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate, which is primarily used for fortifying everyday foods and developing functional foods. It addresses issues associated with traditional magnesium sources, such as magnesium oxide, including poor solubility, a bitter taste and the potential to cause diarrhoea. In baking and flour-based products, the chelated structure of magnesium glycinate offers high stability and prevents adverse reactions with proteins or starch in flour, making it ideal for fortifying baked goods. Dairy products (and plant-based milks), which are rich in protein, benefit from the chelated structure of magnesium glycinate, as this prevents protein precipitation while enhancing the product's mineral balance. In line with the trend for healthy snacks, glycine magnesium is increasingly being used to fortify snacks, meeting consumer demand for nutritious options.
Health supplements are a valuable application for Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate due to its high absorption rate and synergistic effects, such as promoting sleep, alleviating anxiety and improving metabolism. Product formulations prioritise convenient consumption, with capsules and tablets being the most common formats. These provide precise magnesium supplementation tailored to specific needs, such as improving sleep quality, alleviating anxiety and addressing magnesium deficiency. This addresses the issue of insufficient magnesium content in food sources. Powder and granule formulations are flexible and easy to dissolve, making them suitable for individuals with swallowing difficulties, such as the elderly and children. They can be dissolved in water, milk or porridge. Gummies and effervescent tablets prioritise palatability, targeting younger demographics by reducing the medicinal taste associated with supplements in order to attract younger consumers.
Special dietary products are designed for individuals in specific physiological stages or with unique health needs. The low irritability and high absorption properties of Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate make it the ideal source of magnesium for such products. Pregnant and lactating women have increased magnesium requirements during pregnancy to support foetal neural development and prevent leg cramps, but they also need to avoid gastrointestinal irritation as constipation is common during pregnancy. Elderly individuals absorb less magnesium and often reject traditional supplements due to constipation, so they need a highly absorbable, low-irritation magnesium source. Similarly, infants and young children have delicate digestive systems and require an extremely low-irritation magnesium source, despite the fact that magnesium is crucial for their neurological and skeletal development.
■ Production technology characteristics
The core requirements for producing Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate are a high level of purity, an absence of harmful residues (such as heavy metals and organic solvents) and compliance with food-grade safety standards. The manufacturing process must focus on three key aspects: the efficiency of the chelation reaction, controlling impurities, and ensuring product stability. The two main production methods are chemical synthesis (a mature mass production method) and biosynthesis (an emerging green technology).
Chemical synthesis is the preferred method for industrial mass production, accounting for over 80% of the market. High-purity products are obtained through a dissolution-reaction-crystallisation-purification process by utilising the chelation reaction between magnesium sources and glycine in aqueous solution (where magnesium ions form stable cyclic coordination structures with the amino and carboxyl groups of glycine). This mature, cost-effective technology is ideal for large-scale production. Biosynthetic methods are green, high-end processes that are being adopted more and more. Metabolic engineering techniques are employed in microorganisms such as yeast and lactic acid bacteria to synthesise glycine through fermentation. It is then directly chelated with magnesium sources within the fermentation system, eliminating the need for additional chemical reagents. This approach yields products of a higher purity and superior biocompatibility, making them ideal for use in high-end health supplements and infant and toddler foods.
Mineraux®Magnesium and glycine have a synergistic effect on neuromodulation and act as natural neurotrophic agents. Magnesium inhibits excessive central nervous system excitation by blocking NMDA receptors and reducing the release of the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate, thereby reducing hyperactivity in nerve cells. Glycine is an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system that binds directly to GABA receptors, enhancing the sedative effects of GABA. Furthermore, glycine acts as a precursor for serotonin synthesis, thereby indirectly elevating serotonin levels.
▶ Regulates neurotransmitters
Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate is one of the most extensively studied sleep-promoting magnesium supplements. It is particularly suitable for individuals who have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Magnesium regulates melatonin synthesis by activating melatonin synthase and synchronises the body's circadian rhythm. Glycine lowers core body temperature. Together, magnesium and glycine enhance the inhibitory effects of GABA, reducing neural arousal at night and decreasing night-time awakenings.

The health benefits of Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate stem from the synergistic action of its highly bioavailable magnesium and glycine, an essential amino acid for the human body. Magnesium is a key mineral involved in over 300 physiological reactions in the human body, while glycine regulates neurotransmitters and boosts metabolism. Combining them not only enhances the absorption efficiency of magnesium, but also amplifies their respective health benefits.
Physical and Chemical Properties:
Athletes have higher magnesium requirements because magnesium is lost through sweat during exercise and muscle contraction requires magnesium. Mineraux®Magnesium glycinate is an ideal sports nutrition supplement. It acts as a regulator of muscle contraction by participating in the binding and dissociation of actin and myosin, thereby preventing cramps caused by excessive muscle contraction. Glycine serves as a building block for muscle repair and contributes to collagen and myofibrillin synthesis, accelerating recovery from micro-damage after exercise. Magnesium also reduces lactic acid build-up by activating lactate dehydrogenase to convert lactic acid into glucose, thereby alleviating post-workout soreness.
