Nutruoil®Oat oil Health Benefits:
Nutruoil®Oat oil is a high-quality, functional vegetable oil produced from oat bran and grains using gentle processes such as cold pressing and supercritical CO2 extraction. It is a valuable product resulting from the thorough processing of oats. It has a unique combination of active ingredients, including high levels of unsaturated fatty acids, oat β-glucan, phytosterols and the special compound, avenanthramides. Free from cholesterol and trans fatty acids, it retains the natural, subtle aroma of oats. Offering a balance of nutritional functionality and processing suitability, oat oil is a distinctive ingredient for functional foods, dietary supplements, premium edible oils, and personal care products, and can be consumed directly or incorporated into food formulations.
■ Source
The quality of Nutruoil®Oat oil depends on selecting the right raw materials (bran is the best option), screening the varieties and using a gentle extraction process. All stages, from cultivation to processing the finished product, adhere to food-grade compliance requirements. Furthermore, utilising oat bran as a by-product puts the raw material to sustainable use. Richtek's core raw materials are oat bran and naked oat grains. Oat oil is not extracted from whole oats, which have an oil content of only 2-5% and a low concentration of active ingredients. Oat bran is the optimal part of the oat for oil extraction and the core raw material for food-grade oat oil. Oats thrive in cool, dry climates with ample sunlight and grow well in sandy soils. The main production regions have low levels of pesticide residue and high levels of active ingredients. Inner Mongolia (known as the ‘Hometown of Oats in China’) is the main production area, followed by Hebei, Shanxi and Gansu. These domestic production areas have a long history of naked oat cultivation and are free from severe pollution. They also maintain strict controls on pesticide residues, with the bran's β-glucan content reaching 4-6%.

Nutruoil®Oat oil Applications:
Nutruoil®Oat oil has become a distinctive ingredient in the food, dietary supplement and cosmetics sectors thanks to its key advantages: a natural, subtle fragrance; the absence of food allergens; and the combination of both fat-soluble and water-soluble active components, making it suitable for both internal and external use. Furthermore, through processes such as cold pressing, light refining and microencapsulation, it can be adapted to meet the requirements of various applications. Its use is also gradually expanding into sectors such as pet food, animal feed and pharmaceutical excipients.
In the food sector, the focus is on natural nutrition, hypoallergenic properties and a mild flavour. This covers both household and industrial processing. The most established application area is food-grade oat oil, with the core products being cold-pressed oat oil for direct consumption and lightly refined oat oil for processing and addition. Certain aqueous and solid food products are combined with microencapsulated oat oil powder to utilise its subtle oat aroma and its ability to complement rather than mask the flavour of ingredients, as well as its allergen-free properties. This makes oat oil suitable for a wide range of applications, including home consumption, weaning foods for infants and toddlers, and the processing of functional foods. It causes no gastrointestinal irritation and is suitable for a very broad demographic.
The dietary supplement sector focuses on the fortification of active ingredients and convenience of consumption, offering a wide range of formulations tailored to specific needs. Nutruoil®Oat oil is a distinctive ingredient in the dietary supplement sector, particularly in products for cardiovascular health, antioxidant support and gut health. The core ingredient is high-potency cold-pressed oat oil. Through formulation design, issues such as fat-solubility, susceptibility to oxidation and inconvenience of consumption are addressed, catering to the specific needs of diverse groups including the elderly, those with metabolic disorders and individuals with sensitive skin. Currently, softgels are the mainstream dosage form on the market, whilst microencapsulated powders and compound formulations represent innovative upgrades.
In the cosmetics sector, this ingredient is centred on anti-inflammatory repair and non-irritating hydration, making it ideal for use in sensitive skincare products. Nutruoil®Oat oil, which is derived from the deep processing of oats, is one of the few natural plant oils suitable for both internal and external use. Refined, deodorised and decolourised cosmetic-grade oat oil utilises the synergistic effects of oat amides (anti-inflammatory), linoleic acid (barrier repair) and vitamin E (antioxidant and moisturising). It is marketed for sensitive skin care, moisturising, repair and anti-inflammatory soothing with no risk of skin irritation, making it suitable for all applications, including skincare, hair care and lip care.
In addition to its use in food, dietary supplements and cosmetics, Nutruoil®Oat oil is gradually expanding its applications into sectors such as pet food, animal feed and pharmaceutical excipients thanks to its sustainable raw material source (a by-product of oat bran), rich nutritional profile and excellent value for money. It is also used in niche markets such as aromatherapy and the production of handmade soaps, where its natural properties and functional benefits are leveraged to replace certain chemical ingredients, thereby achieving the highest possible utilisation of this by-product.
The key health benefits of Nutruoil®Oat oil include supporting cardiovascular health, regulating blood lipid levels and protecting the vascular endothelium. These benefits are achieved through the synergistic action of three components: phytosterols, unsaturated fatty acids and oat β-glucan. Oat oil contains 0.4-0.9% phytosterols (primarily β-sitosterol), which compete with cholesterol for absorption sites in the gut. This inhibits the absorption of both dietary and endogenous cholesterol. Furthermore, fermentation in the large intestine produces short-chain fatty acids that directly inhibit cholesterol synthesis in the liver, thereby reducing total serum cholesterol and LDL-C via dual pathways. The total proportion of unsaturated fatty acids is ≥75%, with an approximate linoleic acid (ω-6, 55-65%) to α-linolenic acid (ω-3, 8-12%) ratio of 6:1. This aligns with the optimal ratio for human essential fatty acid intake. These two fatty acids work synergistically to build phospholipids in vascular cell membranes, synthesise vasodilators (prostaglandins) and improve vascular endothelial elasticity. This reduces the risk of vasospasm. Meanwhile, the antioxidant effects of oat amides and vitamin E scavenge free radicals within blood vessels, reducing lipid peroxidation reactions and preventing damage to the vascular endothelium caused by oxidised LDL. This delays the onset of atherosclerosis. Short-chain fatty acids produced by the fermentation of oat β-glucan can inhibit the activity of the renin-angiotensin system, mildly dilate peripheral blood vessels and gently regulate diastolic blood pressure in individuals with pre-hypertension. Furthermore, since oat oil contains no sodium or cholesterol, replacing high-salt and high-saturated-fat oils with it reduces the strain on the cardiovascular system.
The defining characteristics of Nutruoil®Oat oil are its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which set it apart from other vegetable oils. These properties are primarily driven by oat amides, which are found exclusively in oats. When oat amides are combined with natural γ-tocopherol, they provide dual antioxidant protection. Furthermore, oat oil's anti-inflammatory effects are gentle and free from side effects, making it suitable for alleviating the chronic, low-grade inflammation that is so common today. Oat amides are lipid-soluble polyphenolic compounds that are unique to oats. They have an antioxidant capacity 2–3 times greater than natural vitamin E and over 5 times greater than vitamin C, and they penetrate deep into the cellular lipid layer to scavenge free radicals on the cell membrane. This protects the integrity of cellular structures and reduces the oxidative damage caused by free radicals to organs such as blood vessels, the liver, and the skin. Oat amides work by inhibiting the release of inflammatory factors such as tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), thereby reducing their stimulation of cells. It is particularly effective in alleviating metabolic, intestinal and skin inflammation.
▶ Blood sugar regulation
The synergistic action of oat β-glucan and unsaturated fatty acids in Nutruoil®Oat oil gently regulates blood sugar levels, eliminating the risk of hypoglycaemia associated with hypoglycaemic medication. It is an ideal daily fat source for individuals with prediabetes or impaired glucose tolerance and can also be used as a dietary supplement by people with diabetes. The β-glucan in oat oil is a water-soluble dietary fibre. When consumed, it forms a viscous, gel-like substance in the gut that slows the absorption of glucose and prevents sharp rises in blood glucose after eating, thereby reducing the burden on the pancreas caused by blood glucose fluctuations.
▶ Skin health
Nutruoil®Oat oil is the only plant-based oil derived from grains that provides internal skincare benefits as well as external moisturising and anti-inflammatory properties. Its efficacy stems from a combination of linoleic acid, oat amides and vitamin E, making it an excellent skincare ingredient for sensitive and dry skin. Its natural, non-irritating formulation makes it ideal for daily skincare, working from the inside out. Oat amides and vitamin E are transported to skin cells via the bloodstream, where they eliminate free radicals in the deeper layers of the skin. This reduces the oxidative damage caused by UV rays and environmental pollution and delays signs of ageing, such as fine lines, dullness and dark spots. Linoleic acid is the key building block for synthesising ceramides in the stratum corneum of the skin. Ceramides are core structural components of the skin barrier, so supplementing with linoleic acid helps to repair a damaged skin barrier from within. This enhances the skin’s ability to retain moisture and alleviates issues such as dryness, flakiness and sensitivity.
■ Manufacturing process
The key difference between Nutruoil®Oat oil and industrial-grade oil, which is solvent-extracted and highly refined, is that oat oil uses gentle extraction and light refining to preserve active ingredients as much as possible. The use of chemical solvents and strong refining agents is prohibited, with cold pressing and supercritical CO2 extraction being the mainstream processes for high-end products. Oat bran is a by-product of processing oats into oat flakes and flour. Traditionally, bran is used as animal feed, but extracting oat oil makes it possible to utilise this grain processing by-product for high-value applications. With an abundant supply of raw materials and controllable costs, oat oil production aligns with the principles of a 'circular economy' and is a green, sustainable food ingredient.
