ROMAPLP®Sunflower lecithin Health Benefits:

ROMAPLP®Sunflower lecithin is a natural mixture of phospholipids extracted from sunflower seeds. Although it belongs to the same plant-based phospholipid family as soybean lecithin, it has unique components and application advantages due to the characteristics of sunflower seeds. ROMAPLP®Sunflower lecithin is widely used in dietary supplements and nutritional health products, various foods, medicines, and skincare cosmetics, among other industries and products.

Regulate lipid metabolism and protects cardiovascular health

ROMAPLP®Sunflower lecithin Applications:

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is a natural emulsifier that breaks down cholesterol, triglycerides, and other lipids in the blood into small particles. This process facilitates their metabolism and excretion by the liver. This reduces lipid accumulation on blood vessel walls and lowers the risk of atherosclerosis. ROMAPLP®Sunflower lecithin regulates lipid composition, reduces blood viscosity, improves circulation, and helps prevent cardiovascular diseases, such as hypertension and coronary heart disease.

■ Source

Phospholipids were first discovered in human brain tissue by Uauquelin in 1812. In 1844, the French scientist Gobley isolated lecithin from egg yolks and named it "lecithin" in 1850, derived from the Greek word "lekithos" (egg yolk). In 1861, Topler discovered phospholipids in plant seeds, including sunflower seeds. This laid the foundation for the later discovery of sunflower lecithin. In the 1930s, lecithin was successfully extracted from soybeans for the first time. Since then, research on and applications of plant-based lecithin have continued to advance, and sunflower lecithin has gradually become more widely recognized. As extraction technology has advanced, the use of sunflower lecithin in food, medicine, and other fields has become increasingly widespread.

Sunflower seeds are the direct source of sunflower phospholipids. Sunflower seeds contain a rich content of phospholipids, which are primarily found in the cell membranes of sunflower seed cells. During the production of sunflower seed oil, oils are extracted from sunflower seeds using methods such as pressing or solvent extraction, which also yields by-products such as oil cake and hydrated phospholipids. These by-products contain a significant amount of sunflower phospholipids, making them an important raw material for industrial extraction of sunflower phospholipids.

ROMAPLP®Sunflower lecithin is a natural emulsifier that stabilizes oil-water mixtures. Commonly used in dairy products, such as plant-based creamers and flavored milk, as well as in baked goods, such as bread and cakes, chocolate, ice cream, and other products, sunflower lecithin improves texture, prevents separation, and extends shelf life. Sunflower lecithin is a high-quality source of phospholipids that can be added to functional foods, such as nutritional cereals and meal replacement powders, to enhance their nutritional value and meet consumers' demand for healthy ingredients. Sunflower lecithin can also be used as a degumming agent during the refining process of sunflower seed oil and other vegetable oils to remove impurities and improve quality.

Pharmaceutical-grade sunflower lecithin is known for its high purity and excellent biocompatibility. It serves as a drug carrier, or a raw material for liposomes, to encapsulate poorly water-soluble drugs. This enhances the stability and bioavailability of the drugs. It is commonly used in formulations of anticancer and anti-infective drugs. Due to its health benefits, such as lipid regulation, liver protection, and cognitive enhancement, sunflower lecithin is often incorporated into dietary supplements, including capsules and tablets. These products target middle-aged and elderly individuals, patients with fatty liver disease, and individuals engaged in mentally demanding work.

ROMAPLP®Sunflower lecithin can be added to animal feed as a nutritional supplement for livestock, poultry, and aquatic animals. It provides essential nutrients, such as phospholipids and unsaturated fatty acids, and improves the palatability and digestibility of feed. This promotes the growth and development of animals. Sunflower lecithin also has excellent skin affinity and moisturizing properties. It helps maintain the integrity of skin cell membranes and reduce moisture loss. Sunflower lecithin is commonly used in skincare products to moisturize the skin and repair the skin barrier.

■ Nutritional components

ROMAPLP®Sunflower lecithin and soybean lecithin have similar main components; both are complexes of various phospholipids. These core components include phosphatidylcholine (PC), which has a higher content in sunflower lecithin and is a key component of cell membranes and an important substance for physiological activity. Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) participates in cellular metabolism and signal transduction. Phosphatidylinositol (PI) is associated with cellular signal transduction and lipid metabolism. There are also small amounts of phosphatidylserine (PS) and other neutral lipids, such as triglycerides and fatty acids.

Compared with soybean phospholipids, sunflower phospholipids have a higher content of unsaturated fatty acids (such as linoleic acid) and contain almost none of the antinutritional factors found in soybeans, such as antigenic proteins and gossypol, resulting in a lower risk of allergies.

Lecithin is an essential component in the liver's synthesis of lipoproteins. It promotes the transport and breakdown of fat in the liver and reduces fat accumulation in liver cells. Thus, it helps improve conditions such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Phospholipids are essential components of cell membranes. Taking ROMAPLP®Sunflower lecithin supplements can help repair damaged liver cell membranes, maintain normal liver cell structure and function, and enhance the liver's detoxification capacity.

Sunflower lecithin and does not contain any other additives.

The brain and nervous tissue contain high concentrations of phospholipids, particularly phosphatidylcholine, a vital component of nerve myelin sheaths. Phosphatidylcholine promotes nerve signal transmission and maintains normal nervous system function. Phosphatidylcholine is a precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which plays a role in learning and memory. Taking ROMAPLP®Sunflower lecithin supplements can indirectly support acetylcholine synthesis, which can help improve memory and slow cognitive decline, especially in middle-aged and elderly individuals.
