Xenoluna®Whey protein concentrate Health Benefits:
Xenoluna®Whey protein concentrate is a protein product extracted and concentrated from whey, the liquid waste produced during cheese production. Whey accounts for about 80-90 percent of total milk and is a by-product of cheese production. It can be processed to isolate high-nutritional-value proteins.
■ Source
Xenoluna®Whey protein concentrate comes from the whey in milk. Milk is about 87 percent water and 13 percent solids. The solids include casein (about 80 percent) and whey protein (about 20 percent). When milk is used to make cheese, the casein coagulates and precipitates. The remaining liquid is whey, which is filtered, concentrated, and processed to obtain whey protein concentrate.

▶ Efficient protein nutrition supply
▶ Advantages of digestion and absorption
Xenoluna®Whey protein concentrate Applications:
Xenoluna®Whey protein concentrate can be used in regular infant formulas to optimize the protein ratio. The whey-to-casein ratio is often adjusted to 60:40 (similar to breast milk) in one-stage formulas for infants aged 0-6 months, which is achieved by adding whey protein concentrate. Xenoluna®Whey protein concentrate can also be used in complementary foods and supplements for infants and young children, as well as in formulas for special medical purposes (FSMP). FSMP can serve as a primary source of protein for preterm or low-weight infants to promote catch-up growth. Xenoluna®Whey protein concentrate can also be used in hypoallergenic milk powder formulas.
Xenoluna®Whey protein concentrate contains nine essential amino acids, including histidine (essential for infants), cysteine (which synthesizes glutathione), and leucine (which promotes muscle synthesis), in amounts significantly higher than casein. Its amino acid pattern closely resembles that of breast milk, and it has a high bioavailability. Whey protein has small molecules and good water solubility. It also produces less nitrogenous waste, such as urea, during digestion. Compared to soy or casein protein, whey protein produces 30% less urea nitrogen per gram of metabolism, reducing pressure on infants' immature kidneys.
Xenoluna®Whey protein concentrate can be combined with calcium, iron, zinc, and other minerals to form soluble complexes that enhance intestinal absorption. For instance, combining it with calcium increases its absorption rate by 20%-30%. This helps mineralize infants' bones and teeth.
▶ Immunity and gut health
Xenoluna®Whey protein concentrate naturally contains immunoglobulins that directly neutralize intestinal pathogens and reduce the risk of diarrhea. Studies have shown that infant formulas enriched with IgG can reduce the incidence of respiratory infections in infants by 15-20%. Lactoferrin competes with bacteria for iron, which inhibits the reproduction of pathogens such as E. coli while promoting the differentiation of immune cells in the intestinal mucosa. Lysozyme destroys the cell walls of bacteria and strengthens the intestinal immune barrier synergistically.

■ Nutritional Value
Xenoluna®Whey protein concentrate is rich in essential amino acids, such as tryptophan and cysteine. Its amino acid pattern is closer to whey protein in breast milk than to casein, and it is more digestible. Xenoluna®Whey protein concentrate is small in particle size, water-soluble, and forms a fine, soft clot in gastric acid, making it suitable for absorption by an infant's intestinal tract. Whey protein produces less nitrogenous waste than soy protein or casein at the same protein content. This reduces the burden on infants' immature kidneys. Xenoluna®Whey protein concentrate naturally contains immunologically active components, such as immunoglobulin (IgG) and lactoferrin, as well as growth factors, such as insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). These components can enhance infants' immune systems and reduce the risk of infection.

■ Production technology description
Fresh whey, collected from cheese production, is filtered to remove solids and adjusted to a weakly acidic pH level to precipitate casein. High-temperature transient sterilization (HTST) inactivates microorganisms, and desalination occurs via ion exchange or electrodialysis if the sodium content needs to be reduced. Ultrafiltration (UF) membranes separate large protein molecules from small lactose molecules and minerals in whey, increasing the protein concentration to 30%-50%. Vacuum evaporation removes some of the water, further increasing the protein content to 60%-80%. Spray drying technology is then used to convert the concentrate into a powder. The powder is sieved and packaged as whey protein concentrate.
