Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin Health Benefits:

Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin is an oxygenated natural carotenoid, a dihydroxy derivative of β-carotene, which is an isomer of lutein and is widely distributed in nature, with the majority of naturally occurring zeaxanthin being the all-trans isomer.

■ Source

The discovery of zeaxanthin dates back to 1782, when ophthalmologists first noticed the yellow pigment in the yellow spots of the human retina. However, it was not until the 1980s that scientists identified this yellow pigment as zeaxanthin and confirmed its chemical structure as 3,3-dihydroxy-beta-carotene. Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin is found in large quantities in plant tissues such as green vegetables, corn seeds, goji berries and sour berry fruits, and in some non-photosynthetic bacteria. Zeaxanthin cannot be synthesised in the body and must be obtained from the diet.

Production technology description:

● Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin was prepared by extracting oleoresin from marigold, which is rich in zeaxanthin precursors. An organic extractant is added to the extracted marigold oleoresin and treated under ultrasonic conditions to obtain the extract. The saponification reaction was then carried out by adding a phase transfer catalyst, mixed alcohols and an alkali solution to the extract. The purpose of the saponification reaction is to convert the components of the ointment into a saponified liquid that can be further processed. An emulsifier, a co-catalyst and a strong alkaline solution are added to the saponification solution to carry out the isomerisation reaction. This step is performed by heating and stirring to convert the zeaxanthin precursors into crude zeaxanthin products. The zeaxanthin crude product obtained is desalted and neutralised with acid, followed by separation and filtration, washing and drying to obtain pure zeaxanthin.

 Pharmaceutical field

Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin as a retinal protective component, research into its use in the prevention and treatment of dry eye and cataract is currently in clinical trials. Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin can also be used in the adjuvant treatment of chronic diseases, where its anti-inflammatory and metabolic regulatory effects are being investigated for the adjuvant treatment of diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease, mostly in oral capsule form.

Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin Applications:

Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin is used as a natural food colour to replace synthetic colours (lemon yellow, sunset yellow) in oil/fat based foods such as margarine, butter, bakery products and water based foods such as beverages and canned soups. Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin is used as a food preservative to protect the flavour and nutritional value of foods by slowing lipid oxidation with strong antioxidant properties and is suitable for fatty foods (e.g. nuts, meat products). Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin is often used with lutein to reduce visual fatigue and prevent age-related macular degeneration and is commonly found in eye care tablets, softgels and oral liquids.

The human body itself cannot synthesise zeaxanthin, you need to ingest from food, the most common foods are corn, carrots, oranges, etc., eaten in moderation has an antioxidant effect, can promote the body's metabolism.Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin has a powerful antioxidant effect, which can help remove free radicals from the body and reduce cell damage and ageing.

Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin has the role of relieving visual fatigue, if the patient exists in dry eyes, eye foreign body sensation and other symptoms of visual fatigue, you can moderate supplementation of such substances to relieve, to a certain extent, can improve the condition. Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin can absorb ultraviolet rays in the light, moderate consumption can protect the eyes, but also can accelerate the metabolism of the eye area, can to some extent to prevent eye diseases.

Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin helps lower blood lipid and cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin boosts the body's immune function and reduces the risk of infection and inflammation.

■ Isomerism

Lutein has three chiral centres and the lutein found in nature, human blood and retina is generally in the (3R,3'R,6'R) stereo configuration, whereas zeaxanthin has only two chiral centres. There are three types of zeaxanthin: (3R,3'R)-, (3R,3'S)-, (3S,3'S)-zeaxanthin, of which (3R,3'S)-zeaxanthin is also known as meso-zeaxanthin, and the naturally occurring zeaxanthin obtained by chemical synthesis is usually (3R,3'R)-zeaxanthin.

Central zeaxanthin and endo-zeaxanthin are the main components of the macular pigment, with lutein playing a dominant role in the periphery of the macula, and the closer you are to the central cone, the higher the levels of zeaxanthin and endo-zeaxanthin, which may mean that they provide better protection for the macula than lutein.

 Feed field

Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin is used as a feed additive to effectively improve the colour of animal nutrition, egg yolk, poultry meat and skin. In meat poultry, Nutrivitas®zeaxanthin is deposited in the claws, beak and subcutaneous fat to enhance colour and improve the quality of the poultry carcass. In the body of laying hens, Nutrivitas®zeaxanthin is deposited in the egg yolk to make it yellow, improve egg quality and increase nutritional value. Nutrivitas®Zeaxanthin can also improve the colour and immunity of fish and is commonly used in the surface spraying process of pellet feed.
